This is why submersible pumps are preferred by the gas station owners. What are Suction Pumps? A self-contained gas pump receives fuel through a suction line from the underground tank. This pump creates pressure vacuum in the system, which forces the fuel from the underground tank to move to the particular pump. How Do Submersible Pumps Work? Submersible pumps, as the title suggests, are submerged under the liquid surface. A propeller-like device, also called impeller, pushes the fuel upward and over the longer vertical directions. These pumps are submersible into any liquid and will not suffer any kind of wear and tear. Compared to other types of pumps, submersible pumps are energy-efficient options. How Do Suction Pumps Work? Functions of suction pumps are based on the principles of unequal pressure. It involves insertion of a pipe. A motor above the fluid surface eliminates air till the air pressure on the gas is not higher than the air pressure above the gasoline. As a result, the surrounding air pushes the gas inside the pipe upward, overcoming the gravitational force that tries to pull it down. As soon as the air pressure inside the pump gets low, the gas immediately goes up into the aboveground dispenser.
